Contacting Crystal Impact If you intend to run Rietveld refinement calculations with Match! using FullProf later on, you should install FullProf first (see below), so that Match! can detect the presence of FullProf automatically when it is first run. However, it is also non problem to install FullProf later on and add the path to it in the Match! options. 1. Installing Match! on macOS ----------------------------- Before you install and run Match!, you should check the following minimum system requirements: - Mac with macOS 10.12 "Sierra" (or higher) - 2 GB of RAM - Hard disk with minimum 2.5 GB of free disk space - Graphics resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels (1280 x 800 pixels or more recommended) - FullProf release March 2018 (or later) required for Rietveld refinement In order to install Match!, please download the corresponding installer disk image ("Match-3-osx-installer.dmg") from https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#download Once the download has finished, please open the disk image in order to display its contents (e.g. by double-clicking on it), then run the installer "Match3.pkg" by double-clicking. Please follow the instructions on the screen, and note the terms of the "End User License Agreement", which will appear in the second dialog box! 2. License installation and running the Software ------------------------------------------------ After you have installed the main software from the download package, the program will run in the evaluation mode, which basically means that it will stop functioning 60 days after it has first been installed on the current computer. You still have to install the license you have purchased, in order to transform the software into your fully personalized, unrestricted version. In order to do so, simply copy the license file "yourlicense.lic" that you have received by e-mail into the directory where you have installed the program. The directory where the software is installed by default is "/Applications/Match3". Note that you may need administrator privileges to perform this task! Afterwards, please verify again that the license file is really present in the corresponding directory, then run Match!. This can be done e.g. by double-clicking on the corresponding desktop symbol "Match!", or alternatively using the Finder (Folder "Applications/Match3"). Your license data should be displayed at the bottom of the splash screen (at program startup), to the right of the status bar at the bottom as well as in the "About Match!" dialog which can be opened from the "Help" menu. Your license still needs to be registered on your computer, in order to prevent your license file from unauthorized copying. If you install the current Match! version as an update (i.e. your license file is already present in the Match! program directory), this will be performed automatically during the installation. However, if you have purchased a new license for Match! and copied the license file into the Match! program directory as instructed above, the registration needs to be performed manually. This is achieved by once running Match! as an administrator. You will be reminded by a corresponding message when you run Match!. In order to do so and remove the reminder message, please open a terminal window, then enter the command sudo /Applications/Match3/Match\!.app/Contents/MacOS/Match\! Enter you "root" password when you are asked to do so, and wait until a message is displayed that your license has been registered successfully. (If you have installed Match! in a different directory than the default "/Applications/Match3", you have to adapt the command accordingly, of course). 3. Installation of FullProf software ------------------------------------ Match! can use the well-known software "FullProf" (J. Rodriguez-Carvajal, Physica B. 192, 55 (1993); http://www.ill.eu/sites/fullprof; FullProf release September 2014 (or later) required) to run Rietveld refinement calculations. If you would like to use this feature, you have to install FullProf (at least if it is not already present on your machine): You can download and install FullProf directly from the FullProf web page (where you will also find detailed installation instructions): http://www.ill.eu/sites/fullprof/php/downloads.html As an alternative, you can also download and install FullProf from the Crystal Impact web page https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#download_fp Simply follow the download and installation instructions given there for the macOS platform. 4. Adjustment of User Level --------------------------- When you run Match! for the very first time, you will be asked which default user level ("Beginner" or "Expert") you prefer: In the "Beginner" mode Match! performs a nearly complete automatic processing of the initial steps: All you have to do is to select the diffraction data file you would like to analyze (you will be prompted automatically for it once the software has been started). Afterwards, Match! will automatically process the raw data, determine the peaks, and run the search-match calculation. All that remains to do is to select the "matching" phases (e.g. by double- clicking or dragging the corresponding entries from the candidate list on the left-hand side to the Match list to the right), and finally display the report containing e.g. the list of matching phases as well as their arbitrary amounts (e.g. by selecting "View/Report"). In the "Expert" mode you have to perform nearly all actions manually. This mode is especially recommended for experienced users who would like to analyze more complicated samples. You can customize the user level ("batch" behaviour) on the "Batch" tab of the "Tools/Options" dialog also later on. In addition to selecting user levels like "Beginner" or "Expert" you can also select individual batch steps according to your requirements. 5. Reference Pattern Database ----------------------------- Match! identifies phases in a sample by comparing its powder diffraction pattern to reference patterns of known phases. Hence, it needs a so-called "reference database" in which these reference patterns are provided. There are several options for obtaining a reference database: Match! is by default installed along with the COD-Inorganics reference database. The name of this reference database already indicates that it contains powder diffraction patterns calculated from inorganic crystal structure data (compounds without C-H-bonds) taken from the COD ("Crystallography Open Database"). This reference database is especially appropriate if you are typically analyzing mineral samples; it is used throughout the tutorial. All entries of the COD-Inorganics reference database contain atomic coordinates, based on which the corresponding powder diffraction patterns have been calculated. Besides this, for all entries, I/Ic-values have been calculated, so that a semi-quantitative analysis can be carried out. If the COD-Inorganics reference database is not suitable for your requirements, you can download and install the full COD reference database from https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#refdb As an alternative to the COD reference databases, you can of course also use any ICDD PDF database product (PDF relational database products only on Windows PCs), or the "old" ICSD/Retrieve database (released 1993-2002), if you have a valid license for it. Finally, it is also possible to apply your own diffraction or crystal structure data in phase identification, by importing them into a so-called "user database". 6. Documentation ---------------- Once you have installed the software on any of the three platforms, both a comprehensive online help (which can be accessed through the "Help" menu) as well as a manual are available as documentation. You can access the manual either from within Match! using the menu ("Help-Manual") or directly by double-clicking on the file "Manual.pdf" in Match!'s program directory. In addition, tutorial videos in which the most common operations are demonstrated are available at https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/videos.htm Finally, there are two basic keyboard shortcuts you should always keep in mind: (Cmd+? on the Mac) will open the online help at the index page, so that you can easily search for information about a given keyword/issue. will display a table of all mouse operations and keyboard shortcuts that can be used. Using these two shortcuts, you should be able to clarify most issues and questions. 7. Online Update ---------------- By default, Match! automatically checks the Crystal Impact web server for a more recent version each time it is executed. If a new version is found, you will be informed and guided to the corresponding web page from which you can download the new version. You can also manually check for a more recent version, simply by selecting the "Check for updates..." command from the "Help" menu. The procedure will be the same as the one described above for the automatic update. 8. Uninstalling Match! ---------------------- If you want to remove Match! from your computer, you first have to decide if you would like to unregister your license before uninstalling the software itself. In order to unregister your license (so that future installations of Match! on this machine can no longer us it), please open a Terminal window, then enter the command sudo /Applications/Match3/Match\!.app/Contents/MacOS/Match\! unregister If you have installed Match! in a different folder than the default "Applications" folder, you have to adapt this command accordingly. Afterwards, you can simply uninstall the Match! software itself from your machine by deleting the folder "Applications/Match3" using the Finder. 9. Unregister license --------------------- Normally, you unregister your license when uninstalling Match! from the computer (see above). If you would like to manually unregister your license but keep your Match! installation, please do the following: Open a “Terminal” window, then enter the following command: sudo /Applications/Match3/Match\!.app/Contents/MacOS/Match\! unregister Enter your “root” password if required. 10. Online Support ------------------ In case of trouble with Match!, you can quickly access the most recent support documents on the Crystal Impact Web site ("https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/") by selecting "News", "Update", "Known Bugs" or "Support" from Match!'s "Help" menu. Of course, you can also send an e-mail to support@crystalimpact.com You might also want to visit the Match! web page from time to time: https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/index.html 11. Time-limited license ------------------------ As long as no valid license file is installed, Match! will run as a full-featured but time-limited "evaluation version": You can use Match! for 60 days after you have installed it for the first time, without having to purchase a license. The expiration date of your evaluation period is displayed on the right-hand side of the status bar at the bottom. Besides this, You can view this date in the "About" dialog which can be opened by selecting "About Match!" from the Match! "Help" menu. After the expiration date, Match! will refuse operation until a valid license is installed. If you would like to continue using Match!, please contact Crystal Impact (address see below) in order to obtain the full version ! 12.
